Since the windchill in Cleveland is 15 degrees today we here at Thinking Color are already thinking about spring, and nothing says spring like flowers. However, there is one place in the world that takes colorful flowers to a whole new level, Holland.
The Dutch have a long history with this colorful flower. They originally began importing them into the country from the Ottoman empire in the 1500’s.
In the 1600’s the flowers were so popular they lead to one of the first documented economic bubbles known as “Tulip Mania”.
The bulbs were actually used as currency until the market collapsed sending the Dutch economy into freefall.
In 2013 Holland exported more than 2 billion Tulips worldwide.
